Next Generation Council

The Next Generation Council (NGC) is a designated space and organizing body for young people ages 16-35 at Dance New England.

What is the NGC?

The Next Generation Council (NGC) includes anyone ages 16-35 at Dance New England. Participation is voluntary as we do not have a membership or roster. We have our own leadership structure that seeks to empower and create community for young people at Camp. Our intention is to create an environment for young people to develop leadership, communication, and community-based skills. We do this in hopes to encourage young people to be active community members and to strengthen Dance New England as a whole.

Events:

The NGC holds the following events each year during Camp, to be scheduled before camp begins:

  • An NGC community meeting, where we discuss topics important to us, create community goals, and vision for the community;
  • An NGC sharing circle;
  • NGC gender circles;
  • NGC elections where we elect a board for the coming year. During the year, the NGC Board organizes one/two weekend event(s).

Our Mission:

  • To grow an active and thriving community of young people who are invested in the future of Dance New England, including but not limited to: stepping into leadership roles, sustained participation at work weekends, teaching classes, and helping Camp set up and take down;
  • To create a connected community that fosters a sense of belongingness;
  • To support the development of the next generation of Dance New England leaders;
  • To create an inclusive Next Generation Council where everyone’s voice is heard;
  • To help lead Dance New England to a more anti-racist, intersectional feminist, consensual, sustainable, socially just, and radically inclusive future.
