Valuables and Security

DNE cannot guarantee the security of personal belongings. While the Lost & Found coordinator does their best to reunite people with their items, DNE takes no responsibility for items left behind. We suggest you label everything you bring, especially any electronics, and don’t bring unnecessary valuables. There have been occasional instances of theft at Camp, so think carefully about what you bring and where you keep cash and valuables.

Covid-specific supplies:

  • Enough Covid rapid tests to test yourself AND each member of your family every other day while at Camp (this is required!)
  • An N-95, KN-95, or KN-94 mask for each person (and perhaps a backup mask or two)
  • A little extra compassion, empathy, and patience — it’s been a rough couple years!

Camping gear:

  • A waterproof tent with sealant, ground cloth, tarps, and cords (unless you have a reserved cabin bed)
  • Flashlights/lanterns
  • Extra batteries

Bedding:

  • Sleeping bag or bedding for cold weather
  • A pillow
  • Floor coverings / rugs for cabins to keep out critters
  • Towels

Clothing:

  • Clothes for hot, chilly, rainy, or delightful weather
  • Bathing suits
  • Sandals
  • Closed-toed shoes for Kitchen & Dining Hall chores / Work Exchange
  • Walking shoes
  • Rain gear
  • Knee pads
  • Dress-up outfits for masquerade/costume ball — think glittery, animalistic, playful, and/or ridiculous
  • Anything that makes you feel comfortable and fun

Personal Care:

  • Labeled water bottle
  • Tick and bug repellent, sunscreen
  • Low- or no-scent soap, shampoo, deodorant
  • Earplugs
  • Your prescription medications and allergy remedies
  • Safer sex supplies
  • Sunglasses
  • Hat

Food:

  • Supplemental food if you have dietary restrictions
  • Do NOT store food in tents or cabins so to avoid attracting wildlife. There is limited personal refrigerator space in the Dining Hall, so choose personal food containers accordingly; label clearly with name and dates at Camp.
  • A labeled mug or thermos

Extras:

  • Money for goods and services at Camp
  • Writing and art supplies
  • Toys
  • Games
  • Yoga mats or other sporting equipment
  • Low-wattage or battery-operated faerie-twinkle lights, scatter rugs, fabrics to beautify cabins
  • Back jack or cushion for non-movement oriented classes and forums
  • Camera
  • Bicycle and helmet
  • Musical instruments (please note we do not offer protected storage for instruments)

Leave at home:

  • Too many expectations
  • Unnecessary valuables/electronics
  • Expensive jewelry
  • Fragrances
  • Alcohol and recreational drugs
  • Weapons
