Phoenix found community at Dance New England in 2015 as a recent college graduate passionate about tango, rueda de casino, and alternative community building. Their background in critical social theory and non-profit program coordination has inspired them to engage in the community in various ways. Phoenix has worn many hats at DNE: a work exchanger in the kitchen, a dance teacher, a Teachers Committee member, an advocate for relocating to Camp Timber Trails, Registrar, and a Next Generation Council (NGC) board member. Each of these experiences have fostered Phoenix’s passion and commitment to DNE’s present and future.
Outside of Dance New England, Phoenix spends most of their time dancing, painting, crafting, and dreaming up alternative learning structures. Professionally, their energy has been focused on multicultural perspective building, language, informal education, and critical reflective practices. Phoenix is currently exploring the intersection of informal education and social dance. Phoenix completed their M.Ed. in international education at the University of Massachusetts Amherst and B.A. in critical inquiry at Hampshire College.
